Industria

Industria was founded in 1920 when the men M. Cohn and J.M. Wolf signed a contract. their company was in Rotterdam in Kralingen. it was first called brass and bronze foundry. they cast hinges and other things. they made many things for shipping, like portholes and other brass things for ships

The first light

This light was for the postal sorters of the PTT. they needed a light, that they can also sort in the evening. There were three holes in this lamp, if you screw a lamp in it, three light beams shine down

Industria received an order from the GEB ( dutch municipal energy company) to modernize the street lighting. the GEB was so satisfied that these luminaires were used in 48 other municipalities! On the picture you see a Industria 1505 thats also in my collection. The first ones were created around late 1940s!

Around 1972 a post-top luminaire was designed by Friso Kramer. This lamp was produced by Industria. Still one of the most popular fixtures to this day! There have been many versions of it. The original Friso Kramer fixture is very rare. But these 2000s are not! The are by far one of the most popular fixtures here in the Netherlands, although the are rapidly being replaced with LED... A new version of Friso Kramer fixture has been made, and ofcourse its Led.

In 1985 Industia started making many different luminaires. Also a new director came in 1986 D. Moerman. Industria had built up a lot of knowledge, the watering cans had now become lighting technicians. people came not only for a luminaire but also for a whole lighting advice!

The first fair, in 1988 at the Hannover Messe. many fairs would come after this in the outside world...

In 2007 Indal, a spanish lightning company took over Industria, and began rebranding and creating new fixtures.

Due to the success of Indal LED luminaires. that caught the attention of Philips. The company finally closed in 2014 and Indal was taken over by Philips

It's not over for Industria

In 2018 Industria will make a comeback. it was retrieved by Ferry Breeuwer and Richard Schmit. whose goal is to bring Industria back where it left off in 2011...
